The Moon Remembers
What the Lunar Cycle Still Has to Teach Us
The Full Moon in Scorpio arrived this morning, rising like a mirror—inviting us to witness what we’ve buried, what’s been simmering beneath the surface, and what is now asking to be seen, felt, and released.
Scorpio moons don’t offer soft wisdom. They pull us into the deep end, into the raw truth of transformation. And maybe that’s why this particular full moon feels like the perfect time to reflect on our long, timeless relationship with the Moon itself. Me, personally, my zodiac sign is ruled by the moon, so I was destined to be connected to the moon and its varying energies. (Shoutout to my fellow Cancerians!)
For as long as we’ve walked this Earth, the Moon has walked with us.
A Rhythm Older Than Time
Before there were calendars, clocks, or cycles tracked on apps, there was the Moon. Across millennia, humans have looked up and measured their lives by its light. Ancient peoples used the Moon’s cycle—about 29.5 days—to time harvests, mark rituals, and honor gods. The word menstruation itself shares a root with moon and month. Coincidence? Likely not.
In early cultures from Mesopotamia to Meso-america, the Moon was often feminine: a goddess of rhythm, reflection, and rebirth. She was seen as the keeper of the mysteries. Many believed she governed fertility and women’s bodies. And while science may now tell us that menstruation isn’t biologically synced with the Moon, many of us still feel some intuitive connection between the phases of the moon and the phases of our lives.
Especially in midlife.
The Moon and the Inner Life
There’s long been a belief that the full moon stirs emotions and stokes the wild in us. Words like “lunacy” come from Luna, and even today, people swear that full moons bring restless sleep, heightened energy, or emotional eruptions. I’ve certainly blamed such things on the moon from time to time.
The science? Mixed.
Some studies show people sleep less in the days leading up to a full moon—even in places without electricity. Others say it’s all in our heads. But maybe that doesn’t matter. Because the Moon’s influence isn’t just about gravity or melatonin—it’s about how we relate to change. How we track our own becoming. The waxing and waning. The shedding and revealing. It’s a practice. A remembering.
Women, Cycles & Lunar Wisdom
As women in midlife, we are not just witnessing one season ending—we are standing in the portal of what comes next. And the Moon has long been a sacred companion for threshold times.
In many Indigenous traditions, menstruation was called a woman’s “moon time”—a sacred period of reflection and renewal. Women were taught to rest during this time, not because they were impure, but because they were powerful.
Today, even if we no longer bleed monthly, we still cycle. We still respond to rhythms. Our bodies, our creativity, our libido, our intuition—they rise and fall in waves. The Moon reminds us that nothing in nature is ever static. And neither are we.
A Scorpio Moon Invitation
Scorpio is a sign of intensity, transformation, shadow, and release. Under this full moon, you might feel emotional waves rise. You may find yourself drawn to solitude, truth-telling, or even ritual. Let it happen. Let this full moon be your invitation to meet yourself honestly.
What have you been holding onto that’s ready to go?
What truth wants to be named?
What version of yourself is being invited to die, so a more aligned self can rise?
Tonight, consider lighting a candle. Write what you’re releasing. Burn it. Bury it. Breathe it out. If that’s too ‘woo-woo’ for you, then contemplate on what you’re releasing. Tell the ether (God, the Universe, Source, you decide) what your releasing with your inner voice. Either way you do this, let the Moon be your witness.
Why the Moon Still Matters
Even if we no longer plant crops by moonlight or track fertility with lunar wheels, the Moon still teaches us. She teaches us to honor cycles, to trust the dark, and to believe in the return of light.
She reminds us that every transformation begins in the shadows—and that we are not becoming less in midlife. We are becoming more. More true. More clear. More whole.
Let this Full Moon in Scorpio remind you that you don’t have to fear your depths. You were made for them.
With love and lunar reverence.

I really like this post, no just because I'm a scorpio. I love that the moon is wrapped in so much intrigue. Thanks for this.
